Cómo cuidarnos de los delitos informáticos en redes gratuitas o abiertas.
Las redes públicas poseen ciertas ventajas, sin embargo, hay que señalar su gran desventaja: la exposición casi ilimitada para que personas ajenas ingresen a nuestra información más valiosa. Para contextualizar lo que podría suceder, les contaremos una breve historia:
Usted llega temprano donde el médico. Va con su pequeña, quien no se ha sentido bien últimamente. Para distraerla, le ha ofrecido su móvil, pero no tiene el juego que ella solicita. Se le ocurre algo astuto. El centro médico tiene internet libre. Se ahorrará su saldo de datos en descargar un juego que no volverá a usar nunca más. Genial idea. ¿O No?
Es así como muchas veces puede ser tentado a utilizar redes públicas. Eso incluye instalaciones de uso público o privado, como balnearios, cabañas de vacaciones, el metro tren, restaurantes, etc. Sobre todo, si se ubican en el extranjero y usted se tiente a publicar o compartir una foto en Redes Sociales (RRSS), usando dicha red pública.
Un delincuente informático puede sacar provecho de múltiples formas en aquellos escenarios; aún cuando no esté buscando particularmente atacarlo, será capaz de buscar una vulnerabilidad en su móvil o notebook para tomar control de él. Ciertamente, su decisión de conectarse a redes públicas puede salirle muy caro.
Hay que tomar en cuenta que los ciber criminales pueden instalar su propio acceso a internet, haciéndose pasar por el proveedor local o señal donde usted confiadamente se ha conectado. Creando un «portal cautivo», el cual le solicitará instalar una aplicación que supuestamente le permitirá navegar gratuitamente. Al instalar dicha aplicación, los delincuentes podrán acceder a su móvil en cualquier momento y controlarlo a su antojo. Teniendo a sus anchas la posibilidad de espiar todos los sitios por donde usted navegue; recopilando información privada, incluyendo sus contraseñas.
Sin embargo, el asunto no suele quedar ahí. Ya que, con fines menos invasivos pero igual de dañinos, los criminales podrían simular su identificador único del móvil para cometer otros delitos que, al momento de ser investigados por las autoridades, apuntarán a usted como perpetrador.
Agregar que existen muchos más escenarios de similares características, como también un sinnúmero de combinaciones de los anteriormente enumerados.

- Intente preparar su viaje, por ejemplo gestionando o desbloqueando el roaming de su móvil, para no depender del internet de terceros.
- Evite las redes públicas o abiertas.
- Si no es posible lo primero, evite ingresar a su banco u otros portales similares; ya que aumenta el riesgo de ser víctima de delitos informáticos.
- Si necesita trabajar fuera de su casa, considere utilizar una Banda Ancha Móvil (BAM).
- Aproveche sus vacaciones para desconectarse. Utilice este período como una excusa para alejarse de su móvil, por un par de días.
